UW professor honored
Dr. Gordon Orians, professor emeritus of biology at the University of Washington, was recently honored by the National Wildlife Federation. Orians received the group's National Conservation Achievement Award at a March 13 banquet in St. Louis. He was honored for more than 40 years of both scientific research and scientific advocacy on behalf of the environment. He has served on many local, national and international committees on the environment, and is especially noted for his work on global climate change and loss of species. An expert witness before Congressional committees on the importance of the Endangered Species Act, Orians also chaired a National Research Council committee studying the impact of energy development on Alaska's North Slope. His own scientific research has focused on American blackbirds, a species noted for the diversity of their social systems. | ||
