CLO to perform "On the Town," May 6 - 23
By CLAYTON PARK
Civic Light Opera will perform the musical "On the Town" at the Shoreline Conference Center, 18560 1st Ave. NE, May 6-23. The buoyant musical features a toe-tapping score by Leonard Bernstein. The story, by Betty Comden and Adolph Green, chronicles the comic misadventures of three sailors who spend a day in New York City, searching for Miss Turnstiles, whom one of the love-struck sailors has seen on a subway advertisement. CLO actor Doug Fahl plays Gabey, the ringleader of the bell-bottomed trio. Miss Turnstiles for the Month of June, a.k.a. Ivy, is played by Jessica Skerritt. Gabey's buddies Ozzie and Chip are played by Joe Beilling and Chris Maltby, respectively, who are sent off in separate directions to search for the object of Gabey's affections. Chip finds himself hauled into a taxi by a man-hungry lady taxi cab driver, Hildy, played by Charissa Bertels. Ozzie meets female anthropologist Claire, played by Tana Miller. Other CLO performers in the show include Andy Tribolini as Judge Pitkin, the lady anthropologist's stuffy but well-heeled fiance, Anita Canon as Miss Turnstile's off-beat voice coach Maude P. Dilly, and ensemble members Nick Conrad, Gabe Corey, Nicholas Corey, Mark Demonbrun, Colleen Gillon, Haleakala, Andrew Kauffman, Jessica Low, Andrew McIntyre, Natalie Moe, Andrea Olson, Cathy Ripley, Jonathan Silvia, Dawn Thurtle and Melissa Wisler. The show is directed by Greg Morales, with music directed by Mark Rabe, and choreographed by Tim Hickey. Deborah Sorenson is the costume designer, Craig Wollam is the set designer, Richard Schaefer is the lighting director, Greg Heinzle is the technical director and Bonnie Ackerman is stage manager. The show also well feature a different celebrity announcer each night. "On the Town" is the final show of CLO's 26th season.
