Spring Clean & Earth month events
It's time to get to work: Seattle's 18th Annual Spring Clean event kicks off on March 27 and continues through May 15. Community members and groups are encouraged to organize their own cleanup activities, including litter pickups, graffiti paint-outs, storm drain stenciling, and planting projects. The City will provide litter bags and free disposal for trash and clean green debris picked up from public property. There will also be a limited number of hand tools, gloves, and safety vests available to borrow.
Spring Clean Kickoff:
The 2004 Spring Clean kickoff ceremony will be held on Saturday, March 27 at the Ballard Segway Building (former Safeway store) at 5701 22nd Ave. NW. Registration will begin at 9:30 a.m. and coffee and pastries will be served, but don't get too comfortable. Work parties will be formed at about 10 a.m. and work will continue until 1 p.m. After that, participants will return for lunch and door prizes.
There are also additional volunteer opportunities available through several city programs. Among them are:
Adopt-A-Park:
Work parties are scheduled monthly to help remove invasive plants, work on trails, and perform planting, weeding, and litter pick-up. For more information, call 233-3979.
Creek Stewardship Program:
Seattle Public Utilities works with volunteers to remove weeds, add native plants, and restore creekside habitat. For more information, call 684-4163.
