Library's 'Story Time' stays in Lake City

Even while the Lake City Library is closed for renovations, preschool story time will continue in Lake City. Our Savior Lutheran Church, 12509 27th Ave. NE, has agreed to host the popular program for children ages 2 to 5 years in its basement Fireside Room. The church is located about one block west of the library building, which is set to reopen in about a year. "Story Time Lady" Laura Meyer will present stories, songs, puppets and games each Thursday from April 1 through May 13 at 10 a.m. These free programs last about one-half hour.

Wallingford Then and Now

Seattle historian Paul Dorpat will present a slide-illustrated lecture on the history of the Wallingford neighborhood on Tuesday, April 27 at 7 p.m. in the auditorium at Hamilton Middle School, 1610 N 41st St.

The lecture, sponsored by Historic Seattle, is the first event of "The Year of Wallingford," a year-long neighborhood celebration.

Dorpat, a Wallingford resident, began studying regional history in the early 1970s, and pays particular attention to photographs, paintings and postcards. He began his weekly column "Now and Then" in the Seattle Times' Sunday Pacific Northwest magazine in 1981. Dorpat has since published three volumes of collected "Seattle Now and Then" columns. He is also co-author, with Genevieve McCoy, of a book titled "Building Washington: A History of Washington State Public Works."

Following Dorpat's talk, Thomas Veith, architectural historian and current Seattle Landmarks Preservation Board member, will present the results of a survey of significant historic and architectural resources in Wallingford.

Tickets for this event are $12/$8 for Historic Seattle members and will be available in advance or at the door. For reservations or information, call 622-6952.
