Phinney holiday concert

The Northwest Chamber Chorus will performs "A Child's Christmas in Wales" concert on Saturday, Dec. 6, at Phinney Ridge Lutheran Church, 7500 Greenwood Ave. N. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. Noted composer Carol Sams will serve as guest conductor. The performance will include a readying of Dylan Thomas' poem "A Child's Christmas in Wales" interspersed with traditional carols from the British Isles. Kurt Beattie, artistic director of ACT Theatre will narrate this perennial favorite. Classical

Christmas works by Holst, Carillo, Gallus, Poulenc and Sams, plus an audience sing-along complete this festive program. CLO to hold costume/prop sale

Civic Light Opera will sell many theater props, sets, costumes and other one-of-a-kind objects at its Halloween Fund-raiser on Friday, Oct. 24, and Saturday, Oct. 25, at 930 N 127th St. Hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. both days. Proceeds raised will aid CLO's move to its new location.

KlezFest set for Nov. 16

Klezmer music, Jewish culture's party-hearty contribution to the world of ethnic music, will be offered up in numerous variations at Temple Beth Am's annual KlezFest, Sunday, Nov. 16.

The festival will open with a Family Stage from noon to 4 p.m. in the gymnasium of University Prep, across the synagogue parking lot, followed by performances by three bands on the Main Stage in the temple's sanctuary from 4:30-7:30 p.m.

The Family Stage presents The Katatonics with trombonist Marc Smason, Yiddish for Youngsters with long-time klezmer pioneer Wendy Marcus, the exuberant intergenerational KlezKidz Orchestra and KidsChorus, Hungarian bottle-dancing and a trio of baritone saxes.

New this year are exhibits of quilted huppahs (Jewish wedding canopies) and a hands-on chance to sew and design something to take home, Yiddish bingo and Yiddish karaoke.

The Main Stage will feature the Tzimmes from Vancouver, B.C., and Shawn's Kugel and The Klez Katz from Seattle.

FamilyWorks dinner, Nov. 9

The FamilyWorks Food Bank and Family Resource Center will present a Sunday Dinner fund-raiser at Tom Douglas' Palace Kitchen on Sunday, Nov. 9, from 4-6 p.m. The program will include a gourmet meal, a keynote message from Linda Nageotte, executive director of Food Lifeline, and a silent auction. Underwritten by sponsors Banner Bank and Wells Fargo Bank, all proceeds of the $100 per person event will go to support the food bank and the Wallingford-based family center, which offers a broad range of nutrition, parenting education and support, skills development and referrals to community resources. Folklore Society concerts

The Seattle Folklore Society's Saturday Night on Phinney Ridge concert series continues with performances by Aengus Finnan and Misty River.

Born in Ireland and raised in Canada, Finnan worked as an actor, a teacher, and an ornithologist before he began writing and singing songs. He won the Kerrville Folk Festival's new songwriter award in 2002. His latest recording is entitled Northwind.

Finnan will perform in the Phinney Neighborhood Center Community Hall on Saturday, Oct. 25, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $12/$6 children and seniors.

All-female acoustic quartet Misty River perform folk, country, and bluegrass songs featuring vocal harmonies and accompanied by various string instruments. Group member Chris Kokesh recently took top honors at the Maryhill Winery Amphitheater Songwriting Contest. Misty River will play Saturday, Nov. 1, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $15/$13 students and seniors.
