Bartell's set to open in U-Village
Bartell Drugs' newest store, with a reconfigured entrance and expanded floor space is nearing completion at University Village shopping center. The 20,500-square-foot store, which will be about 2,500 square feet larger than Bartell's existing U-Village store, is set to open in late October. The larger store will feature an expanded pharmacy, with new customer waiting and consultation areas, an expanded convenience foods department, and a new one-hour digital photo service.
First Mutual gets new manager
Scott Teffera recently began his new job as manager of First Mutual Bank's Ballard banking center. He was previously a senior personal banker with Bank of America. First Mutual is a Bellevue-based community bank with 11 branches throughout the greater Seattle area.
Home Realty adds staff
Home Realty announced the recent addition of Maria Bishop and Donnetta Kelley to its Northgate office sales staff.
Kiehl's opens at U-Village
Kiehl's, a retailer of skin and hair care products, recently opened a store at University Village shopping center. The store is located at 2625 NE University Village.
Monster.com opens at Northgate
Online employment firm Monster.com has opened a Northgate office as part of its new division focused on skilled and hourly workers. Matt Joelson, formerly of locally owned staffing firm Molly Brown, and Seth Sigel,will staff the new office. He is a University District Chamber of Commerce member who spent the last four years with payroll giant ADP.
Paragon brokers sale
Paragon Real Estate Advisors recently announced the successful completion of two apartment building sales in North Seattle: The Mirrorwood Apartments, a 36-unit building built in 1986 at 14371-14381 30th Ave. NE in Lake City, was sold on Oct. 1 for $2.78 million. Paragon brokers Cathy Jeney and David Petersen represented the seller in the deal. A 14-unit apartment building built in 1961 at 4001 NE 50th St. in the Sand Point area was sold on Oct. 1 for $1.35 million. Paul Mickley of Paragon represented both the buyer and seller.
Seattle names new biz advocate
The City's Office of Economic Development recently appointed Kris Effertz as its new Business Advocate. She will work with businesses on a case-by-case basis to troubleshoot concerns and resolve problems. She is available to help business owners understand and navigate City processes, regulations and polices, and to gaIn access to needed resources. She can be reached at 684-BIZZ (2499).
UW opens 'Nasdaq trading room'
The University of Washington Business School on Oct. 7 became the first college campus on the West Coast to have a mock stock trading room for students. Robert Greifeld, president and chief executive officer of the Nasdaq Stock Market in New York, participated in opening the new Nasdaq student trading room located in the UW Business School's Balmer Hall. The high-tech trading room is equipped with 12 trading stations and two television monitors that offer live news coverage of financial markets from CNBC and CNNfn. The trading room allows master's of business administration students to make simulated trades. Although the terminals won't allow students to complete transactions, the trading room lets them use real-time data to manage their investment "portfolios." There are about a dozen colleges in the country that have mock trading rooms. "Our trading room is akin to a chemistry or physics lab with respect to the real-world experimenting students will perform and learn from this kind of practical, truly hands-on experience is one found on Wall Street, not in workbooks," said Vance Roley, UW professor of finance. The Nasdaq is the world's largest electronic stock market.
Windermere adds associates
Windermere Real Estate has added two new associates at its North End offices. Nicole LaChasse, formerly a senior pharmaceutical consultant with Glaxo Smith Kline Pharmaceuticals, has been added at Windermere's Ballard office. Naureen Ali, who previously worked as a manager at Vancouver, B.C.'s Aldo Inc., has been added to the staff of Windermere's Northwest office. She is multilingual, speaking Urdu, Gujrati, Hindi and English. | ||
