Trachtenburg Family Slideshow Players return

North Seattle's favorite musical family, the Trachtenburg Family Slideshow Players, return to the neighborhood for a Sunday, Sept. 28 show at Ballard's Sunset Tavern.

The group, featuring Jason Trachtenburg (keyboards, vocals, and a former music columnist for this newspaper), wife Tina Piña Trachtenburg (vintage carousel slide projector), and their 9-year-old daughter Rachel Piña Trachtenburg (drums) uses discarded slide collections and original songs to create what they describe as "pop-rock visual exposes."

The group's new interactive CD, "Vintage Slide Collections From Seattle, Vol. 1," was released on Sept. 23.

The band, which relocated from Lake City to New York City, has been featured on the covers of Pollstar and Music Connection magazines, and earned writeups in Entertainment Weekly, the Los Angeles Times, the New Yorker, Spin, the Village Voice, the Christian Science Monitor, and the New York Daily News. Earlier this year, the band became one of the very few unsigned musical acts to ever appear on NBC's "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" television show.

This show (and a University of Washington gig the previous evening) will kick off the Trachtenburg Family Slideshow Players' month-long tour. The Sunset Tavern show is at 10:30 p.m. at 5433 Ballard Ave. NW. Tickets are $10. For more information, call 784-4880.
