Magazine honors locals

Twelve physicians from Northwest Hospital made the grade as Seattle magazine honored the region's top doctors for women.

These dozen top docs were selected through a confidential, random survey of more than 5,000 health care professionals in King, Pierce, and Snohomish counties. Those surveyed were asked to select health care providers they would recommend to a loved one for diagnosis or treatment of conditions affecting women.

The honorees and their specialties are: Dr. Gail Shapiro (allergy); Dr. Sandra Vermuelen (breast cancer, radiation treatment); Dr. Timothy P. Mate (reproductive system cancer, radiation treatment); Dr. Charles Drescher and Dr. William Peters (reproductive system cancer, surgical), Dr. Sarah M. Speck (general cardiology); Dr. Steve Overman (chronic fatigue); Dr. David Gilbert and Dr. Steven Wegley (gastroenterology); Dr. Peter Chatard (liposuction); and Dr. Karen V. Wells (obstetrics).
