Letters to the Editor
Greetings from former 'pioneers'
We would like to subscribe to your paper. My wife, Joyce, and I live in Kingston at the present time. Before moving here, we lived in Lake City. Our families moved there in the late 1930s. We were both active in community affairs. During high school, we both worked at the "brand new" Lake City Theatre (now home of the Seattle Mennonite Church). In those days, everybody came to the show. Later on we worked at other jobs. I worked at Bill Pierre Ford when it opened. I was a volunteer firefighter at the Lake City Fire Station. I later joined the Seattle Fire Department where I spent the next 27 years. Joyce and I were members of the Lake City Lions Club, the Lake City Elks Club, Scouts and things I probably can't remember. About 1950, Joyce's dad, Robert Price, Tiny Edwards and many other Lake City business leaders decided to start a community celebration. They named it "Pioneer Days." We both became active in Pioneer Days. I was one of the original "Vigilantes." Joyce Price became the first Pioneer Days queen. The year was 1952 or 1953. This was the first year that Lake City Pioneer Days joined Seafair. Last year, you ran a story about Pioneer Days which had a photo of Joyce. We neglected to get a copy of that paper, I guess, because we live over here across the sound. If possible, we would still like to purchase a copy of that issue, if you keep them that long. ... THERON and JOYCE GIBB, Kingston
(Editor's note: We do keep a limited supply of back issues, which are available for purchase upon request, based on availability.)
Keep on shining
I enjoy all neighborhood papers far more than their "big sister" newspapers far more informative and interesting. Enclosed is a check to cover another year's subscription. As a retiree, I carefully select every newspaper, magazine and other publications and books I select to keep. The Seattle Sun is the only Seattle local I decided upon. Keep up everything you're doing. Love ya! VI McKAY, Haller Lake | ||
