Young readers honored

Ten North End children were among young readers from throughout the city honored at the Seattle Public Library's "Breakfast of Champions" event on Aug. 15. The 10 were winners of a prize drawing which included each participant in the "Read Around the World" summer reading program who read at least ten books. Among the attendees at the annual breakfast event were Mayor Greg Nickels, City Council President Peter Steinbrueck, Librarian Deborah L. Jacobs, and KING 5 TV News Anchor Dennis Bounds, who served as master of ceremonies. One young reader per library branch was invited to attend. The Seattle honorees (with their ages and the library branch they represent) were: Kelda Byrne, 7 (Broadview); Sarah Corsa, 9 (Green Lake); Louise Currie, 7 (Greenwood); Conor Eckert, 8 (University); Lauren Glass, 11 (North East); Francisco Gonzales, Jr., 8 (Lake City); Daniella Ortiz, 11 (Fremont); Maya Suzumura, 8 (Wallingford); Sherry Thitch, 10 (Temporary Central Library); and Michael Vitz Wong, 7 (Ballard).
