Sand Point Market
The Sand Point Market is a new concept in Seattle based on traditional European-style shopping markets. The idea came from years of travel by founders Karen Bailey and Shirley Flaherty, both longtime business consultants who now co-own The Northwest Antique Market Company. The Sand Point Market builds on the popular "market scene" in Seattle but differentiates itself by blending all types of merchants into one location. The merchants sell antiques, art, fine crafts, plants, produce, and flowers. The concept was first tested last summer at Safeco Field. The patrons embraced the idea but the location of the Market was perceived as more challenging than Bailey and Flaherty expected. After searching for a new site, they selected Sand Point Magnuson Park. Now located in an historic airplane hanger right on Lake Washington, the Market has come to life as a place to shop for one-of-a-kind products that "all have a story," say Bailey and Flaherty. The Sand Point Market debuted April 6 and was held again on June 1. It will take place on three more Sundays this year: Aug. 3, Oct. 5, and Dec. 7. To date, close to 5,000 patrons have attended.
