Roosevelt potluck, July 20

The Roosevelt Neighbors' Alliance (RNA) is hosting its fourth annual Potluck Picnic in University Playground Park, at NE 50th Street and 9th Avenue NE on Sunday, July 20, from 4-8 p.m. The event will include games of petanque, and a potluck picnic. Everyone is invited to this free, community picnic. Picnickers simply bring a potluck dish, a chair or blanket, boules (if they have them), their family and friends and the RNA will provide the rest. Two lucky people will win a raffle of a set of boules (petanque balls) provided by Playaboule (www.playaboule.com). The proceeds of the raffle will go toward the RNA's Landmark Fence Project to replace the park's existing chain-link fence with an artwork, river rock and wrought iron "beauty." Construction of the new fence is planned for Spring of 2004.

Wallingford Kids Parade, July 6

No need to call the weatherman: the theme for the 54th annual Wallingford Kiddies Parade is "Rain or Shine."

Children on parade will fill N. 45th Street between Corliss Avenue N. and Woodlawn Avenue N. starting at 5 p.m. Registration opens at 3 p.m. at the parade staging area at N. 45th and Corliss.

(A limited amount of decorative materials will be available at the staging area.)

Marchers can also join parade ensembles including Umbrellas on Parade (bring your umbrella), Pirates (arrrgh, Matey!), Trashy Fashion Show (dress in recylables and packing materials), and Cacophony (bring instruments or noisemakers to join in). Marchers can also organize their own neighborhood ensemble groups. (Stumped for an idea? Call parade ideas at 547-8478 for a brainstorm.)
