Fremont Library open house

Preliminary designs to renovate the historic 1921 Fremont Library building will be unveiled at an open house on Tuesday, June 3, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the library,731 N 35th St.

Designers from Hoshide Williams Architects and project manager Justine Kim will be available to answer questions about the design and the construction process. Visitors can also provide written comments on the project.

The $566,094 renovation project, set to begin later this year, will convert a 780-square-foot storage room into a public space, while upgrading the library's ventilation system and updating its collection of about 27,000 books.

The library renovation is being coordinated with the development of an adjacent park. The project will also create a wheelchair ramp serving the library's lower-level meeting room.

The Fremont Library is a designated Seattle landmark and is also listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
