Landmarks workshop, June 7Historic Seattle will present a Landmark Nomination Workshop on Saturday, June 7, from 9 a.m. to noon, at Good Shepherd Center, 4649 Sunnyside Ave. N. The workshop will give an introduction to Seattle's landmark designation process and provide history and architecture research tips. Speakers will include Seattle Landmarks Coordinator Beth Chave and Landmarks Board Chairman Lorne McConachie. The cost for the workshop is $10 and advance registration is required. Phinney home tour, June 8The Phinney Neighborhood Association will hold its 15th annual "Real Homes for Real People" home tour on Sunday, June 8, from noon to 5 p.m. The event showcases eight homes in the Phinney/Greenwood area that have been remodeled or restored. Tickets cost $12 for PNA members and $15 for the general public and may be purchased at the Phinney Neighborhood Center (6532 Phinney Ave. N.) on the day of the tour. For details, call 783-2244.
Thornton Creek Garden TourHow can North Seattle property owners help protect urban streams? Answering this question will be the focus of the Thornton Creek Garden Tour on Saturday, June 7, from 10 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. Participants will meet in the parking lot of Meadowbrook Community Center, 10517 35th Ave. NE to view displays and demonstrations, purchase native plants from local nurseries, and pick up a tour map. Visit one or two gardens, or see all the methods gardeners can use to reduce runoff and eliminate use of damaging herbicides and pesticides. Experts from Seattle Tilth, the Master Gardener Program, the Native Plant Society, and Seattle Public Utilities will be on hand to answer questions and present demonstrations on such topics as plant selection, on-site composting, and natural pest management. Wedgwood Home Tour, June 14The home designs of Wedgwood developer and builder Albert Balch will be featured in a tour on Saturday, June 14, starting at 10 a.m. in the Fireside Room of Wedgwood Presbyterian Church, 8008 35th Ave. NE. Mitch Yockey of Yockey Terry Architects will give a short presentation, then maps will be provided for a self-guided home tour. A reception will also be held. The cost is $5 per person, with proceeds benefiting the Wedgwood Community Council. | ||
