Party for Greenwood Library

The Greenwood Library is having a 75th anniversary party in May, but it will also be a farewell party of sorts for the aging neighborhood landmark. The library building at 8016 Greenwood Ave. N will be demolished later this year to clear the way for a new, larger 15,000-square-foot library funded by the 1998 "Libraries for All" bond measure. The party will be on Saturday, May 31, from 3-5 p.m.

The original Greenwood branch opened in May 1928, in a 1,000-square-foot storefront at 7020 Greenwood Ave. N. It housed 3,000 books and seating for 24. Two-hundred-forty people registered for library cards during the library's first two days. The branch was remodeled in 1932 and again in 1939. In 1954, the original building was replaced by the current building. For more information, call 684-4086.
