Northgate mini-library opens

The Parks Department and Seattle Public Library are hosting an open house on Wednesday, May 21, to begin the design process for a new Northgate library, community center and park. Residents can tell designers what sort of services they want included in complex, which is expected to open by 2005. The project will be built on the former Bon Tire site at 5th Avenue NE and NE 105th Street, across the street from the Bon Marche. It will include a 10,000-square-foot library, 20,000-square-foot community center and a 1.67-acre park. While the project's site plan has been finalized, residents can still comment on how they want the buildings and park to look, said Caroline Young Ullmann, a library spokeswoman. A temporary mini-library recently opened its doors at the Bon Tire site. The meeting will be held from 6:30-8:30 p.m., at Olympic View Elementary School, 504 NE 95th St. For details, call the Parks Department at 684-7060, or the Seattle Public Library at 386-4096.
