Kudos for James Bush

I thought you would be interested to know that I received a letter from a District voter yesterday who enclosed a contribution based on what he read in the Sun article (by James Bush, headlined "What about Bob? Ferguson challenges incumbent Sullivan"). In his letter, he wrote that he considered James Bush to be the best political reporter in town.

Bob Ferguson,

Citizens to Elect Robert Ferguson

Reader impressed with Ferguson

James Bush's editorial,"What about Bob? Ferguson challenges incumbent Sullivan" (Seattle Sun, March), describes the forward thinking 38-year-old attorney opposing Cynthia Sullivan, a 20-year incumbent, on the King County Council.

Some weeks ago, Ferguson knocked on my door, introduced himself, and handed me a flyer stating his concerns, commitments, and experience. His Web site elaborates upon all three. That evening I contacted him to say my husband and I want to volunteer with his campaign.

Bob Ferguson is an individual who acts to bring about change with intention and follow through. He is a leader of substance and vision.

We need to pay attention to Bob Ferguson. We need to find out what he's about, and to vote for him in the Democratic primary on Sept. 16.

Schools deserve our thanks

Thanks for a beautiful sixth anniversary edition of the Seattle Sun (March 2003 issue). I read it line by line, ad by ad, article by article, and felt informed and impressed with its content and range.

Since I'm on the Washington State School Retirees communications committee, and have several of my Haller Lake and North End neighbors who are school retirees, I thought you might include a mention of Gov. Locke's proclaiming of March 17 through March 23, 2003, as School Retirees Appreciation Week.

Last year, several of us retirees brought brownies or cookies to many of the schools in appreciation of their service on behalf of one of the cornerstones of liberty, our public school system.

I'm pleased and proud of what you are doing and have done journalistically.

JOHN DOTY, Haller Lake

Crime Prevention continues

I want to send thanks the Seattle Sun and to the community I was fortunate to work with as the Seattle Police Department Crime Prevention Coordinator for Lake City and many other parts of the North Precinct!

Thanks, Seattle Sun, editors and staff, for the many articles on crime prevention, related events like "Night Out" and the Lake City lunch-time concerts held last summer (which you also helped sponsor, thanks again!) and efforts to keep Block Watch in the community's eye!

Thanks for your encouragement and insights on how best to serve the area!

Thanks for your help in making my work something I hold as a very warm memory of the past five years!

I also want to thank all the community and Block Watch members for their help, hard work and friendship from Broadview to Maple Leaf , Cedar Park to Victory Heights, North Park to Greenwood, Pinehurst to Meadowbrook, Bitterlake to Northgate, Haller Lake to Licton Springs, along Aurora and Lake City Way and all points in between!

Thanks to the staff of the Lake City Little City Hall and the one and only Yolanda Martinez, the Food Bank and Helpline, Fire Station #39, the Chambers and service clubs and the Lake City Library!

My warmest thanks to you all!

If you have questions about the SPD's East Precinct, my new assignment, I'm still at 684-7717! And by the way, Neil Hansen, 684-4689, is the new North Precinct Crime Prevention Coordinator for all areas west of I-5 and for all areas east of I-5 it's Diane Horswill at 684-7711.

Sun lover

Thank you for taking the time to come hear us, interview us, and write the thoughtful article about us in the Seattle Sun ("Local band blends jazz, boss," March issue).

We're, of course, very pleased with the Grupo amoroso article, but also with the Seattle Sun as a Seattle regional paper. I think it exemplifies what a paper can be: good topical information, well written, and informative to its regional readership good neighborhood citizenship.
