New gas pumps at U Village?

The Northeast District Council has registered with the City its concerns over the University Village QFC grocery store's proposed plans to add a self-service gas station.

In a letter to the Department of Design Construction and Land Use, Northeast District Council co-chairs Jim Simpkins and Jeannie Hale asked that more attention be paid to environmental review of the project.

The council's concerns include the apparent signs that QFC may be looking to eventually expand the gas station, which would start off with five fueling pumps, to 16 pumps, and that DCLU may not be planning sufficiently for the massive volume of cars expected to use the new gas station. The council wants mitigation to be required for the project, such as installing a traffic signal at the NE 45th Street entrance to QFC.

Hale said she is hopeful that QFC will be responsive to the community group's concerns.
