Recycle inkjet cartridges

The Catharine Blaine Charity is asking the public to recycle their used inkjet cartridges to help protect the environment and aid a worthy cause. The non-profit group provides computers to low-income children attending schools in grades K-12. Founder Jeff Hammer says the organization is suffering financially as most charities have since the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. As a fund-raising effort and to protect the environment, the group has partnered with Ecco Recycles to recycle empty inkjet cartridges. For more information, contact the charity by calling 367-8097 or by sending e-mail to catharine.blaine@verizon.net.

Teach creeks to kids

Homewaters Project, an educational organization based at North Seattle Community College in the Thornton Creek Watershed, is seeking volunteers to teach outdoor field investigations on watershed ecology in Thornton Creek to 4th and 5th grade students in the Meadowbrook neighborhood of North Seattle.

Working with Seattle Public Schools and Seattle Public Utilities, volunteers and staff will lead 3.5-hour field investigations that align with schools' science unit on Land and Water and Salmon.

Volunteers will have three training sessions in February and March, and will teach a minimum of three programs between March and June. The application deadline is Feb. 7. For information call Linda Versage, 206-526-0187, or see lversage@sccd.ctc.edu and www.homewatersproject.org.
