Wall to head citywide group

Irene Wall, president of the Phinney Ridge Community Council, has been elected to a one-year term as chair of the Citywide Neighborhood Council (CNC). She replaces Kate Joncas, executive director of the Downtown Seattle Association, who represented the Downtown District.

The CNC is made of of representatives from each of the city's 13 district councils. Wall represents that Northwest District. The group's function is to advise the City Council and Mayor on the City's budget, planning and matching funds programs. In effect, Wall says, it is the neighborhoods' lobby with City Hall.

Asked what the group's priorities are for 2003, Wall said, "There is strong consensus among the districts not to lose ground for the Neighborhood Matching Fund program during lean years."

The CNC meets every fourth Monday, 6:30 p.m. at the West Precinct (downtown at 8th Avenue and Virginia.) For details, visit the Department of Neighborhood Web site at www.cityofseattle.net/neighborhoodcouncil/.
