Dinners for seniors

North Seattle Community College will hold buffet dinners for senior citizens on Dec.3, Jan. 7 and 21, Feb. 4 and 18, March 4 and 18, April 1 and 15, May 6 and 20, and June 3. The buffets will be prepared by NSCC Culinary Arts students. The dinners will be served in the North Star dining room at NSCC (9600 College Way N) at 5:30 p.m. The cost is $6.50. Volunteer opportunities

Are you retired, 55 or older and interested in going back to school? Do you enjoy children or teens? Are you willing to lend an ear and share your knowledge and experience with a child? RSVP, the King County Retired and Senior Volunteer Program at the Fremont Public Association, can train seniors interested in becoming tutors and can match them up with students.

In North Seattle, RSVP provides after-school tutors and tutors for English as a Second Language classes at Meadowbrook Family Center. RSVP is also involved with the SPICE Intergenerational Centers in Ballard and North Seattle. The program also provides Study Buddies who assist kids in Seattle and Bellevue with reading, the Washington Reading Corps (a countywide reading program in public schools), and the Interagency Academy (where volunteers work with adolescents in alternative schools).
