Quilt to be raffled at Winterfest

This year's raffle quilt design is made up of 35 houses, each boosting unique, funny details. It seemed so well, Phinney Ridge that for the first time, organizers put the quilt on the festival poster.

Paula Prominski, a Greenwood resident and member of the Phinney Neighborhood Quilters, led the effort this year. She says the quilt was inspired by a design used several years ago by a Bellevue group known as the Block Party Quilter's Guild. Prominski thought a house theme would work well for the Phinney group, and volunteered to organize this year's project, making patterns and sending them to be quilted by different volunteers.

When the individual houses came back, they were sewn together in several different groups, and then redistributed for the finishing touches. The quilters added a variety of details, from a satellite dish to a Volkswagen Van, to make each house unique.

"I thought this group would probably have a really good sense of humor," Prominski said. "My expectations of this quilt were met and then some."

Mary Lee Newman, special events director for the PNA says, the quilt "highlights the unique attributes that each individual household brings to the neighborhood."

Proceeds from the raffle will help pay for several PNA programs. Quilt raffle tickets cost $1 each. For details, call 783-2244.
