More eyesores in Lake City

In response to Cheryl Klinker's article in the November issue about ART in Lake City, and her comments on the sculptures in the medians between NE 123rd and NE 125th, true, they are not the prettiest things to look at, but I would much rather look at them than the front of Craniums Coffee Shop. That purple, green and yellow is a true eye sore, and when the sun hits it, I feel like I am living in Tijuana. I have to look at that every day out my front windows, and believe me it is not a pretty sight. I'm all for cleaning up Lake City Way, and there is a lot there to clean up. But let's start with what is there already.

Rebuttals

· Leon Johnson, co-owner of Cranium's Coffee & Collectibles, responds: "Thank you for noticing our building. That was the whole point of the color. Don't judge a book by its cover."

· Mike Sweeney, artist of "Gateway", the sculptures in the median of Lake City Way, called the Sun and says that given time, the growth of moss and lichen on the sculptures will make them 'complete.' He also appreciates the ground cover planted by Nathan Hale students.
