Local couple ties the knot

By YOLANDA MARTINEZ

In August 2000, Bill Hawkins and Cyndi Hedel became engaged at the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France. They planned to return to Paris the following year to get married.

Unfortunately, those plans got delayed when Bill, who has polycystic kidney disease, went on dialysis in December of last year. Being on dialysis, three times a week, prevented the couple from traveling to France.

Bill and Cyndi don't give up easy, so they planned to hold their wedding at the next closest place.

They got married on Saturday, Nov. 16, at Red Rock Canyon National Park, which was followed by a wedding reception at the Paris Hotel in Las Vegas.

Bill works as a delivery driver for the Black Pearl restaurant in Wedgwood. He is a 1984 graduate of Roosevelt High School who went on to attend Shoreline Community College. Cyndi is a massage therapist. Bill is the son of the late William E. Hawkins and Yolanda R. Martinez of Lake City. Cyndi's parents are Barbara and Rudolph Hedel from Sarasota, Fla. The happy couple will reside in Ballard.
