Olympic Hills to hold Soc-Hop

The public is invited to attend a Soc-Hop dance at the Lake City Community Center on Saturday, Nov. 23, from 6-10 p.m.

The event, which is being organized by the PTA at Olympic Hills Elementary School, is a fund-raiser to benefit the school's music program. The dance will feature live music by Blue Sky, as well as door prizes, raffles, food and fun. Admission is $10 per person or $15 per couple. Tickets are available at the door. The community center is located at 12531 28th Ave. NE.

Folklore Society events

The Seattle Folklore Society will host the following acoustic music concerts in North Seattle in November:

On Saturday, Nov. 2, Irish music performers Grey Larsen and Paddy League will perform at the Phinney Neighborhood Center, located at 6532 Phinney Ave. N.

On Saturday, Nov. 23, Mike Dowling, a musician who has appeared on National Public Radio's Garrison Keillor Show, will perform at the Phinney Neighborhood Center.

On Saturday, Nov. 30, singer-songwriter Heidi Muller, a former Seattleite who now lives in New Jersey, and Dan Maher will perform at the Phinney Neighborhood Center.

All of the aforementioned concerts begin at 8 p.m. The Phinney Neighborhood Center is a non-smoking, all-ages venue. For details, ticket prices and to make reservations, visit the SFS Web site at www.seafolklore.org or call 528-8523.

Ballard to hold swing dance

Ballard High School's music department will put on its annual fall community swing dance on Saturday, Nov. 9. The event, which will be held in the school's Commons, will begin with a dance instruction session at 6 a.m. Music begins at 7 p.m., provided by the Ballard High Jazz Band and Jazz Choir. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for kids under 10 and students with an ASB card.
