Greenwood Park breaks groundDespite a nagging drizzle, about 100 people turned out on Sept. 8 to witness the official ground-breaking for Greenwood Park. The new green space, located at 8700 Evanston Ave. N., is the former site of the Otani Greenhouses and was first identified as a potential open space in 1954. The new park will offer amenities including an open meadow, a children's play area, a trellis with an Interurban trolley design and community garden planters. Nearly $1.2 million for the new park have come from the Pro-Parks Levy, and thousands more have been raised from other agencies and community donations. The park will be completed next year. "I'm proud of every minute I put in working on Greenwood Park," Loretta Vosk, chair of Friends of Greenwood Park, told the crowd. "I feel a responsibility that it becomes what we want it to be."
