Bitter Lake's 'Saturday in the Park,' Aug. 10

The Bitter Lake community will hold its sixth annual Saturday in the Park festival on Saturday, Aug. 10, from noon to 3 p.m., at Bitter Lake Park, located at N. 130th Street and Linden Avenue N.

As in past years, the event will include a picnic with food from the barbecue, old-fashioned band music from the Seattle Symphonic Band, carnival games, a car show, a watermelon-eating contest and the 26-foot skyscraper slide.

Saturday in the Park is sponsored by the Bitter Lake Advisory Council. Admission is free, although there is a charge for food, the slide and games. For more information, call the Bitter Lake Community Center at 684-7524.

Judson Baptist BBQs on Sundays

Wallingford Wurst Fest seeks community help

Volunteers are needed to help with the 21st annual Great Wallingford Wurst Festival, which will be held Sept. 20-22 at St. Benedict's School, located at 4811 Wallingford Ave. N. The annual weekend-long event, which started in 1981 as a way to come up with money for teachers' raises at St. Benedict, has become a popular rite of fall in the Wallingford community, drawing an average of 20,000 visitors. The Wurst Fest features carnival rides, live music, a beer garden, craft vendors, and, of course, plenty of wurst, along with other food offerings.

The flipside to the festival's growing success has been an increase in the amount of work needed to put on the event by the school's parent volunteers.

For more information about volunteering, call the school at 633-0331.
