Locals named to U.S. team

In June, three members from the Seattle Canoe and Kayak Club (based at Green Lake) went to Essen, Germany, to race as members of the U.S. World Team.

Lauren Austin, 16, a Green Lake resident who attends Holy Names Academy, and Lizzie Resta, 14, a Ballard resident who attends Roosevelt High School, both won the right to compete at the European match after their successful showing at qualifying races in Chula Vista, Calif. Another Seattle Canoe and Kayak Club affiliate member, Aasim Saleh also joined the European competition. Currently he trains in Lake Placid, N.Y.

Lake City Chamber golf tourney

The Lake City Chamber of Commerce's 8th annual golf tournament will take place on Thursday, July 25, beginning at 11 a.m. The tournament will be held at the Nile Golf Course at 6601 244th St. SW in Mountlake Terrace.

The cost for the event is $65 per golfer ($85 for those who register after July 8). The price includes includes the green fee and dinner. Prizes will be donated by Lake City Chamber members.

Last year's tournament drew 50 golfers.
