Fremont Market to stay for now - gets temporary permit
The City recently granted Fremont Sunday Market owner Jon Hegeman's request for a permit to close N. 34th Street between Evanston and Phinney Avenues on Sundays - but only for the first four weeks of the season.
Hegeman said if all goes well for the Market's first month of outdoor operation, he expects the permit to be renewed for the rest of the summer.
"We just have to prove the premise that the Market can co-exist with our neighbors," said Hegeman. He added that he believes granting the temporary permit is standard operating procedure for the City when there is a dispute.
Concerns were recently raised by the Sound Mind & Body Gym that closing N. 34th Street would limit parking for the fitness club's members.
The Fremont Sunday Market launched its current outdoor season on April 28.
