BF Day auction raises $50,000

On March 9, BF Day Elementary School , located at 3921 Linden Ave. N., held its 6th annual auction at the Adobe building in Fremont.

While the $50,000 raised by the school was slightly less than last year's total, Mark Steelquist, the auction's organizer, said BF Day officials did reach their goal and were happy with the result.

BF Day Principal Susan McCloskey said 320 people attended the auction, bidding on about 300 items. The auction items that fetched the highest bids were large craft pieces made by BF Day students, including a tiled table, a mirror in an etched metal frame, and a clay chess set, all of which went for hundreds of dollars.

"The reason (the auction) is so successful is that the Fremont community is so supportive," McCloskey said.
