Lecture & book signing at Beth Shalom
On Sunday, April 14 at 10:30 a.m. Congregation Beth Shalom in Ravenna will host a lecture and book signing with Richard Elliott Friedman. His talk is titled ³The Disappearance of God in the Bible.²
Friedman is the author of several books including ³The Hidden Face of God² and ³Who Wrote the Bible?² The program is free.

Chabad-Lubavitch hosts bonfire
On Tuesday, April 30, Chabad-Lubavitch, a North Seattle-based Jewish group, will host a bonfire at Golden Gardens Park in honor of Lag B¹Omer.
The day of Lag B¹Omer corresponds to several important events in Jewish history, including the death of a famous rabbi. In Israel, people flock to the rabbi¹s grave where they take part in dancing, singing and bonfires.
The Lag B¹Omer bonfire at Golden Gardens begins at 5 p.m. Participation is free and refreshments will be sold. For details, call Chabad-Lubavitch at 527-1411.
Church of Divine Man offers meditation class
On April 7 at 1 p.m., the Church of the Divine Man will host a class titled ³Meditation: Key to Your Answers.² The class will be led by Reggie Taschereau, a spiritual teacher and healer. The church is located at 2007 NW 61st St. For cost of the class and other details, call 782-3617.
Girl Scouts honor Lake City Presbyterian
The Girl Scouts Totem Council honored Lake City Presbyterian Church with a Token of Appreciation Award in March for the church¹s donating space the past several years for troop activities, leader meetings and training. The Girl Scouts organization was particularly grateful for the church¹s generosity given that none of its volunteers are members of the congregation. Rock of Ages Lutheran to present concert
Rock of Ages Lutheran Brethren Church will present a concert by Hillcrest Academy Band of Fergus Falls, Minn., on Easter Sunday, March 31, beginning at 7 p.m. Admission is free, but a free will offering will be taken. Sakya Monastery to offer special events
Sakya Monestary will host several special events in April, including the following:
On Saturday, April 20, the Hale brothers will perform a guitar concert that explores the traditions of Klezmer, Hungarian, Finnish and Celtic folk music. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. Preregistration is recommended.
On April 24 at 7 p.m., Dr. Jeffrey Schoening, a Buddhist scholar, will present a discussion and slide show on Thailand based on a recent tour of the country. The program will touch on both Buddhism and and Christianity and the challenges facing these of those religions in Thailand today.
On April 30 at 7 p.m., the monastery will host the first part of a two part lecture series on Tibetan government. Tashi Namgyal, who has spent over 25 years in service to the Tibetan-government-in-exile, will lead the discussion. Part two will take place on May 1, also at 7 p.m.
