LAND USE: Block 40 project on schedule

By CLAYTON PARK

Despite the rainy weather, construction work on a mixed-use complex in downtown Fremont called the Block 40 Project is proceeding slightly ahead of schedule, reports Jeanne Muir, a spokeswoman for developer Security Properties.

The Block 40 Project, which is being built on the former site of the Red Door Alehouse on the corner of N. 34th Street and Fremont Avenue, is scheduled for completion by February or March of next year. It will have 130 apartments on its upper floors and retail space on the ground floor. The complex will include underground parking.

The Block 40 Project is designed to appear like a collection of smaller buildings, each with its own look. Each individual "building" will be named after a different planet or moon. Along Fremont Avenue, the Block 40 complex will be a single story with a roof garden. Along Evanston Avenue, it will be 6-stories tall. The historic Red Door building was moved last year to its new home, one block away, on the corner of N. 34th and Evanston.
