Chip and Mulch Tour
According to Seattle Public Utilities (SPU), Seattle homeowners have recycled enough wood and yard waste in the last five months to cover a football field with wood chips, thanks to the yard waste recycling program known as the Chip and Mulch Tour.
Neighbors who want to turn their yard waste into mulch, free of charge, must gather a group of a least four homeowners, and provide a space large enough to accomodate a 60-foot woodchipper truck and 200 square feet of chips that will be left behind. Chipping events can be scheduled through July and usually take place on Saturdays.
For more information call SPU's Natural Lawn and Garden Hotline at 633-0224.

Park garage sale needs donations
Donated items are sought for a garage sale that will be held on May 25 to raise funds to benefit a project to enhance the Last Open Space in Lake City Park.
"Ground-breaking this summer starts the return of habitat for bird-watchers and Phase 1 for daylighting Little Brook in the southwest corner of the park," says Cheryl Klinker, a volunteer who is helping to organize the garage sale. The Little Brook Development Committee hopes to raise $5,000 to qualify for a neighborhood matching grant from the City before fall planting of native plants and a new walking path is completed, she added.
Please donate items that are in good condition, says Klinker. Appliances are accepted only if they can be brought down the day of the sale.
The site of the garage sale has yet to be determined, but will be published in an upcoming issue of the Seattle Sun. To donate items to the garage sale, contact Cheryl Klinker at 367-4635.
