Boy named 'Youth of Year'

Fifteen-year-old Green Lake resident Chris Fiorito has been chosen as the Wallingford Boys & Girls Club's Youth of the Year for 2001. Along with the award, he will receive a$500 savings bond and other prizes.

Fiorito has overcome many challenges in his life including homelessness and the death of a parent, said Jamie Flaxman, executive director of the Wallingford Boys & Girls Club. Despite these hardships, Fiorito has been a leader at the club and a role model for his peers since he became involved with the group three years ago, Flaxman said.

Fiorito will compete against other Boys & Girls Club Youths of the Year for the title of Youth of the Year for King County.
