Sakya Monastery announces January programs

Sakya Monastery, located at 108 NW 83rd St. in the Greenwood neighborhood, will hold several programs that are open to the general public in the month of January: on Monday, Jan. 14, a presentation on Tibetan medicine will be led by Dr. Lisa Meserole, a naturopathic physician and past-chair of Botanical Medicine at Bastyr University; on Wednesday, Jan. 16, Stephanie Price, a leader of meditation and ritual classes at Sakya Monestary, will lead a discussion on the "four immeasurable expressions" of Buddhism: loving kindness, compassion, sympathetic joy and equanimity; on Wednesday, Jan. 30, Dr. Yang Ho-Chin, professor of Culture and History of Tibet, will give a talk on "Chinese Views of Tibet." All of the aforementioned programs begin at 7 p.m. A small admission fee will be charged. For more information, call the monastery at 789-2573.

Church holds monthly 'Celtic' services

Ravenna Boulevard Presbyterian Church, located at 564 NE Ravenna Blvd, holds a "Celtic Christian Service" on the third Saturday of every month, beginning at 5 p.m. "These services are patterned after those of the Iona Community in Scotland and are informal in nature," says Pastor Donna Frey DeCou. Phinney Lutheran: now serving soup!

Phinney Ridge Lutheran Church, located on the corner of N 75th and Greenwood Ave. N, announces that it is serving soup dinners at its weekly Sunday evening worship services. The service begins at 7 p.m., with dinner served at 7:30 p.m. For more information, call the church at 783-2350. b
