Lecture on 'spiritual healing'

"Where is our refuge from fear and anger?" This question, which is foremost on many people's minds these days, will be discussed on Saturday, Nov. 10, 11 a.m. at the Meadowbrook Community Center. Parking is free and all are welcome.

The speaker will be Marceil DeLacy of Seattle, and the lecture is sponsored by 13th Church of Christ, Scientist in Lake City. Among her many activities, DeLacy has done volunteer work with Afghan refugees in Pakistan. She has also done volunteer work with prison inmates, an abused women's network, and a local crime prevention council.

Her career path has been both unconventional and rewarding, she says. After receiving a degree in creative writing from the University of Washington, she studied acting at New York City's American Academy of Dramatic Arts. After that, she became a computer troubleshooter, a motivational speaker and an award-winning sculptor.\

Eventually, DeLacy entered the field of spiritual healing, using the method explained in the bestseller "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," by Mary Baker Eddy. DeLacy conducts her healing, teaching, speaking and writing activities from her home in Seattle.

The Meadowbrook Community Center is located at 10517 35th Ave. NE in Lake City. For more information on DeLacy's talk, call Virginia Sommerfeld at 363-9212.

Dignity/Seattle moves to Ravenna

Dignity/Seattle, an organization of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered Roman Catholics, has moved to the Ravenna-Bryant neighborhood. On Sept. 22, the group decided to leave St. Joseph Catholic Church, located on Capitol Hill, after having held masses there for over 21 years. They will now meet at Ravenna United Methodist Church.

According to Dignity/Seattle, their group has long been at odds with the Catholic Archdiocese of Seattle over several issues including a gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender civil rights bill, which the Archdiocese opposed. Leo Egashira, a spokesman for Dignity Seattle, said that staying on Catholic Church property would have meant compromising the group's struggle for equal rights.

Pastor Ruth Geiger of Ravenna United Methodist Church said she is excited to have Dignity/Seattle meeting in Ravenna and noted that even though her church is Protestant and Dignity/Seattle is a Catholic group, both religions have their foundation in Jesus.

The Ravenna United Methodist Church is located at 5751 33rd Ave NE. For details, call 325-7314.
