Twin Teepees sign rescued

For the last two months, many Seattleites have been mourning the passing of Green Lake's Twin Teepees restaurant. Those residents who considered the building a landmark will be happy to know that one piece of the structure escaped the demolition crew: the sign.

The neon sign, reading "Twin Teepees at Green Lake," was rescued by local businessman Rich Hooper, who owns R&H Garage next door to the former sight of restaurant at 7223 Aurora Ave N. When he learned the wrecking crew was going to destroy the sign along with the building he had it disconnected it from the Teepees and had it hoisted up to the ceiling of his auto repair shop.

Meanwhile, Green Lake neighbors have already been by the garage to see the Teepees sign in its new home. Eventually Hooper hopes to make repairs to the paint, wiring and neon tubes to restore the sign to its full glory.

Uncommon Grounds gets new owners

Uncommon Grounds Cafe in Roosevelt at 6508 Roosevelt Way NE changed ownership in April. The new owners, who purchased the restaurant from Saed Amora, are a team of two married couples: Fil and Amy Romero and Chris and Jennifer Wilson.

Fil Romero said he and his wife used to meet the Wilsons at Uncommon Grounds (where the Wilsons were regulars) to plan the restaurant they hoped to some day own together. The dream restaurant began to sound more and more like Uncommon Grounds itself. When they heard the business was for sale, the jumped on it.
