Maven staff wins SPJ awards
Jet City Maven columnist Stan Stapp recently received a second place award for column-writing for a non-daily newspaper from the Western Washington chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists.
Stan won for three columns which ran in the January, February and March 2000 editions of the Maven: "Recalling big brother Milton's letter press"; "Memoirs offer eyewitness account of Seattle General Strike of 1919"; and "Wallingford Library's new home stirs thoughts of past, present and future."
Maven co-publisher Clayton Park also won an honorable mention award for business column writing in the SPJ competition for daily newspapers in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana and Alaska. He received the award for the business column he writes for the Eastside Journal where he holds his "day job" as business editor.
