Calvary Temple to hold Freedom Fest

Calvary Temple will hold a "Seattle Freedom Festival" in their parking lot on Sunday, July 1.

The event will feature free hamburger or hot dog lunches, inflatables and games booths for the kids and live music performed by the Northwest Gospel Jazz group, the Calvary Temple adult and youth choirs and the Calvary Temple orchestra.

Elizabeth Grossglass, Calvary Temple music administrator, said that this will be a third year the event has taken place, though it has been on a two-year hiatus due to budget cuts. "We wanted to get back out into the community again," Grossglass said.

The Seattle Freedom Festival will take place on July 1, from 1-4 p.m. The Calvary Temple is located at 6810 8th Ave NE. For more information, call 525-7473.

St. Benedict School 'greens' its grounds

On Earth Day of this year, St. Benedict School in Wallingford completed a planting project originally suggested by school parent Terry Bush in 1996. Bush obtained a $5,000 grant from the City's Department of Neighborhoods to remove asphalt surrounding parking strips in front of the school. The project eventually grew to cover all sides of the school.

Students, staff, parents and parishioners then banded together to plant 300 bulbs and 24 trees in 32 gardens along Wallingford Avenue N, N 48th and 49th streets and Densmore Avenue N. St. Benedict is a K-8th grade Catholic school located at 4811 Wallingford Ave N.
