LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Neighborhood needs new stoplight

The following is an open letter to the City:

We are most concerned with marked crosswalks and pedestrian controlled stoplights. I would appreciate very much if you could do something to the bad corner, 35th Avenue NE and NE 130th Street before someone gets killed. Many people travel this street at high speeds, to avoid the traffic on Lake City Way and NE 125th Street.

Some of our Block Watch people have, in the past, borrowed a speed and number gun from the Police, and had some alarming numbers.

Many people that travel this street, 35th Ave NE, don't realize that this is a split corner. The neighbors and I feel something needs to be done, and soon. We have been fighting this for several years.

So please do not brush us off again. It's twice as bad now, since Metro Transit buses have also engulfed this corner, making it more hazardous. Also, more businesses are in this area.

They changed the bus lines about two years ago, running up 37th Avenue NE with the end of the line up on NE 145th Street. Now, the end of the line is alongside the Fred Meyer store on 35th Avenue NE. They block one lane of Traffic on 35th Avenue NE. The end of the line for buses was once more out of the traffic pattern. The old bus line used 37th Avenue NE for over 40 years.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.
