East West Books offers special programs

East West Book Shop, a store that focuses on books that expand awareness on topics such as spirituality, mythology and healing, will offer a series of special programs in May. Topics and performances include: Laurie Riley, who will give a sound healing concert on Saturday, May 12; a presentation on raising children that think for themselves on Wednesday, May 23; and a presentation on telepathic animal communication on Saturday, May 19.

East West Books is located at 6500 Roosevelt Way NE. Costs for the programs vary and some require pre-registration. For more information, call 523-3726.

Maple Leaf Lutheran offers programs

Maple Leaf Lutheran Church, located at 1005 32nd Ave NE, is offering three new educational programs for North Seattleites, including Study Buddies, a tutoring program for kids in grades one through six, English As A Second Language (ESL) classes for adults, and Youth Advancement Through Music and Art (YATMA.)

YATMA, a non-profit program, offers musical instruction on the piano, guitar and drums and also visual arts activities for children, ages five and up.

Both the ESL program and the Study Buddies program are free. YATMA carries a fee, but scholarships are available.
