Synagogue to be dedicated, March 18

Chabad congregation Shaarei Tefilah will dedicate its new synagogue at 6250 43rd Ave NE in the View Ridge neighborhood on Sunday, March 18, with a public procession and ceremony. The procession will begin at 2 p.m. and proceed from the corner of NE 68th and 40th Avenue NE to the new synagogue. It will include live music and dancing. The ceremony will take place at the synagogue at 2:30 p.m. and feature and appearance by former Washington State Gov. John Spellman. An open house with music and refreshments will take place afterwards until 4:30 p.m. The entire event is free and open to all. For more information call 527-1411.

Tibetan New Year celebration in Greenwood

Losar, the Tibetan New Festival will be celebrated by the Sakya Monastery of Tibetan Buddhism on Sunday, March 4, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., at St. John the Evangelist Church, 123 N. 79th St. in Greenwood.

Festivities will include Tibetan folk dance, a play performed by the Childrenšs Dharma School, as well as Himalayan handicrafts and food.

Losar is an important annual event for Tibetans and is considered a time of purification and renewal. It is also a time to eat dumplings (momos) and drink buttered tea. Admission to the festival is free. For more information, call 789-2573.
