Green Lake Chamber goes into hibernation

In a Jan. 16 letter to former members of the Green Lake Chamber of Commerce, treasurer Richard Milsow announced that the Chamber will be inactive for the foreseeable future.

Milsow, who works as executive director of the Hearthstone retirement home in the Green Lake neighborhood, cited the Chamberıs loss of leadership in the past year and lack of energy and motivation among remaining members as reasons for the groupıs decision to go into ³hibernation.²

This isnıt the first time the Green Lake Chamber has folded only to be resurrected later. The Chamber became inactive in the mid-1980s, after having served the community for several decades, and remained on hiatus until 1997, when it was officially relaunched.

Unfortunately, since then, several of the key people who led the rebirth of the Chamber had either moved out of the area or ceased their active involvement.

Last summer, the Chamber sent out a mass mailing to invite all Green Lake businesses to a meeting. Only a handful of people showed up. Milsow said the Chamberıs board members concluded that interest in the group had once again dwindled.

Milsow said the Chamber still has money, which will remain in a bank account so the funds can earn interest.

³Thank you for your past support of this worthwhile organization,² Milsow wrote. He added that he would support any business person who wishes to resurrect the Chamber. For more information, Milsow can be reached at 525-9666.
