February is a big month for Seattle gardeners. Thatıs because the nationally renowned Northwest Flower & Garden Show will take place Feb. 7- 11 at the Washington State Convention & Trade Center.
Two North Seattle participants will be among those demonstrating their talent in garden design at this yearıs show.
Phil Wood of Fremont will be designing a theme garden titled ³The Art of the Chinese Garden.² Wood became interested in Chinese gardens because he was adopted, as a child, from China.
One of the goals of the exhibit will be to promote the understanding of Chinese culture and art through the Classical Chinese garden.
Veteran garden designer Pam Richards, a Ballard resident, will also be exhibiting at the Flower & Garden show. This will be her second time as an exhibitor. Richards took first prize at last yearıs event in the Best Use of Color category and hopes to do well with this yearıs entry, which she plans to call ³The Wedding Night Garden.² Richards said the inspiration for this yearıs exhibit came from an article she read about a couple who spent their wedding night in their garden. Richardsı design will feature an arbor with a bedroom set up underneath and a table for the wedding feast.
