The View Ridge Community Council will meet on Wednesday, Sept. 20, to discuss the Seattle Public Library's plans to expand the North East Library as well as neighborhood efforts to lobby the library board to approve funding to build a new library branch at Sand Point.
Bob Lucas, president of the View Ridge Community Council, said local residents are concerned that current plans to expand the North East Library, located at 6801 35th Ave. NE, doesn't include additional parking.
He said his group supports expansion of the North East Library, which continues to be one of the most heavily-used library branches in the city, but would like the plans to include the addition of a parking garage.
The community council is also urging the library system to use money from its voter-approved $6 million opportunity fund to pay for a new library branch at the former Sand Point Naval Station.
The Sept. 20 meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at Sand Point Community Church, located at 4710 NE 70th. For more information, call Lucas at 206-526-0575.
