A new program directed towards cat owners and other feline enthusiasts has been launched by the Seattle Audubon Society to protect wildlife and the environment. The "Cats Indoors" program educates people that it is in the best interest of their pets and Mother Nature to keep cats indoors. Many Americans continue to allow their cats to roam freely, with disturbing effects to the environment and to the cats themselves, according to the Seattle Audubon Society. Research shows that cats impact wildlife far more than is generally realized. A University of Wisconsin study found that U.S. cats kill millions of birds and over 1 billion small mammals annually. Information on keeping indoor cats happy and on wildlife impacts is available from the Seattle Audubon Society at 523-4483.
