A second community meeting to discuss locations for the new 15,000-square-foot Greenwood Library is scheduled from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 29 at St. John's School, 123 N. 79th St., Egan Auditorium.
The first meeting was held Jan. 24. Sites explored at that meeting, each covering approximately 40,000 square feet, included:
€ The current library site and adjacent properties, at N. 81st and Greenwood Ave. N;
€ Japanese restaurant, N. 85th and First Ave. NW;
€ Pizza Hut, NW 85th and First Ave. NW;
€ Odyssey Dance Club, NW 85th and Third Ave. NW;
€ McDonald's, N. 85th and Greenwood Ave. N.
Since that meeting, three new sites having the needed square footage have been added to the list for consideration, which include:
€ Department of Licensing, N. 85th and Phinney Ave. N;
€ Thriftko/Hancock Parking, N. 85th and Palatine Ave. N;
€ Medicine Man Pharmacy, N. 85th and Dayton Ave. N.
The $6.4 million voter-approved library, scheduled to open in 2002, will feature large areas for children and teens, upgraded computer workstations and instructional spaces, expanded book collections, additional parking and more. The Library Board will take public comments on sites at its next two board meetings, scheduled for 4:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 28 and April 25 at the Central Library, 1000 4th Ave., Lee Auditorium.
