B.F. Day Auction raises over 50,000 dollars

The Annual B.F. Day Elementary School Auction, held March 11 for the public school in Fremont raised approximately 53,000 dollars, a record amount, according to parent volunteer, Ole Carlson. The amount was in part due to a 15,000 dollar matching grant from Intel. About 5,000 dollars was raised to fund projects for art teacher Jennifer Sughrua.

Carlson says one of the largest ticket items was a handmade quilt made by students. The quilt was purchased by Ashley Nerbovig's parents for about $2000. The Nerbovigs also purchased the quilt from their daughter's class last year for $900.

Other popular items include lamps and posters made by the students, four trips to Mariner's games with the Principal, and dinner with the Superintendent. Some interesting items included catered ethnic dinners featuring Russian and Mexican cuisine.

Carlson says that approximately 400 people attended, packing the Adobe conference room that he says Suzie Burke arranged for the fund-raiser. Carlson says a big thanks goes to volunteer parent, Sally Haber who orchestrated the event. About eight volunteers from City Year served dinner, which Carlson says was excellent.
