If you're looking to get out, beat the winter blahs, meet some new people, and get exercise all at the same time, the Monday Night Old-Time Country Dance could be for you. The dancing takes place every Monday night at the Lake City Community Center from 8:00 p.m. until 11:00 p.m. Each week features different live musicians and callers from all over the United States and Canada.
No prior experience, lessons, membership or special costumes are necessary to join in the fun. The multi-age crowd is friendly and the dances, taught on the spot, are easy to learn. They range from New England-style contras to traditional squares and circle mixers. Dancers can come alone or with a partner.
Those new to contra dancing get to attend their first Monday night dance for free. Also, a free introductory workshop is held on the first Monday of every month at 7:30 p.m. Thereafter, admission is $6 for adults and $3 for kids and seniors. The Lake City Community Center is located at 12531 28th Ave N.E., just two blocks west of Lake City Way N.E. For more information call 525-0932, or go online to seattledance.org.
