WALLINGFORD:
On Jan. 29,. the Wallingford Library celebrated its grand opening in a new home: the Fremont Public Association's Resource Center, 1501 N. 45th. The new $400,000 library, located one block west of its old site, offers a 2,000-square-foot space and expanded service, operating 48 hours a week.
The dedication ceremony featured several dignitaries, including City Librarian Deborah Jacobs, Mayor Paul Schell, state Rep. Frank Chopp, local authors Vonda McIntyre and Cecile Andrews, 1999 Summer Reading Champion Natasha Priess and the B.F. Day Elementary School Choir.
NORTHGATE:
A community meeting was held to discuss six potential sites for the new Northgate Library. The library is slated to be a 10,000-square-foot single-story building with potential to expand to 30,000 square-feet. It may or may not be combined with a community center.
The following potential sites are:
€ Meridian Ave. N and Northgate Way
(the former Barnaby's Restaurant);
€ College Way N and N 92nd
(North Seattle Community College campus);
€ 5th Ave. NE and NE 113th
(Park and Ride Lot);
€ 5th Ave. NE and NE 103rd
(Parking Lot);
€ 5th Ave. NE and NE 106th
(Commercial Building);
€ 5th Ave. NE and NE 105th
(Bon Tire Center).
The next meeting will be on Thursday, March 2 at 7pm at North Seattle Community College in the Baxter Student Events Center.
